Our People's Budget Fix Rally made a huge splash in the media, generating press around the Bay Area and across the state. Momentum is building behind our platform of smart criminal justice
reforms that would save California $12 BILLION dollars over five years
-- you can help! We're heading up to Sacramento on August 18 to take our message to the Governor and Legislators. Join us -- click here to RSVP by contacting Books Not Bars organizer Jennifer Kim.
The San Jose Mercury News and other Bay Area newspapers quote Books Not Bars Director Zachary Norris:
Norris' voice broke as he thanked the rally's attendees.
"At the end of the day, it's not about economics, it's about people's
lives," he said, likening his hope for reform in the wake of this
week's deep budget cuts to the day's weather. "It's cloudy, you can
barely see the sun, but you can feel it — you can always feel the sun."
In the Media
Bay Area newspapers Oakland Tribune, San Jose Mercury News, Alamada
Times-Star, Fremont Argus, Hayward Tri-Valley Herald all ran a report
on the event. Click here to read more.
KTVU, NBC 11, and Telemundo each ran stories on the event. We'll post these videos as the become available.
While we can't say that the editorials were a direct result of the People's Budget Fix, the editors of both the LA Times and the San Francisco Chronical agree that the bloated prison system is wreaking havoc on the state's budget and must be fixed.
