Oakland Demands Equitable Climate and Energy Action
On Tuesday March 30th, City Council got their first look at Oakland's
proposed Energy and Climate Action Plan. But, before they saw the plan,
they saw the steps of City Hall filled with over 175
Oakland Climate Action Coalition members and supporters, including many
of you, united with caulk guns for weatherization, trees ready for
planting and signs declaring 'Climate Justice,' 'Green Jobs' and
'Oakland is Ready!'
Next, we went inside City Hall to testify
for Oakland Climate Action Coalition policies that address global
warming while creating green-collar jobs, improving public health and
saving residents money. From the voices of high school youth, labor
union representatives, green business owners, environmentalists and
social justice advocates, our message was loud and clear: We want
an Energy and Climate Action Plan for the City of Oakland that provides
equal protection from the harms of global warming and ensures equal
access to the benefits that global warming solutions provide.
