Welcome to our blog – a powerful new tool for Ella Baker Center and hopefully an engaging new “must read” for you.We have great stories and big ideas to share. First hand accounts from the front lines of our fights for justice. Bold solutions to lift communities up our of poverty. Answers to some of the hardest questions facing urban America today.

We’ll be sharing our work – through blog entries from our campaign directors and organizers – sometimes on-scene at Ella Baker events.

We’ll be sharing the victories and challenges faced by our allies, keeping you up to date on the most critical fights for justice.

We’ll pass along important stories from the mainstream and independent media; the articles, think-pieces and ideas that you shouldn’t miss.

We’ll touch on some of the topics we cover in our campaigns: Racial justice; juvenile and criminal justice reform; alternatives to incarceration and violence; green economic development and “green politics.” We’ll also work to put it in all context, highlighting success stories and big ideas from around the country that blur the lines between traditional “issue areas,” and to connect our work for justice to the larger social struggles we’re all a part of.

This is also a good blog if you’re already a fan of our Director, Van Jones, and his posts on sites from Alternet to Huffington Post. Van will be blogging regularly, so if you’re familiar with his work you should subscribe.

What we don’t have yet? A good name. EllaBlog? Blogs Not Bars? Ella Blogger center? We don’t know. You can email our Communications guy with a good suggestion [ben[at]ellabakercenter.org] and we’ll make sure you’re a big celebrity in our little blog.

We’re also a couple weeks away from an RSS feed – which lets you “subscribe” to this blog and plug it into your own blog or website. RSS feed should be up by early October – in the meantime email us to get on a list and we’ll let you know, or just check back then.
