Some Good News From California’s Justice System

January 15, 2012 — In the last decade, California has closed 8 of its 11 juvenile facilities and successfully turned responsibility for holding and treating nonviolent offenders over to the counties, where they can have more contact with their families and their chances for a smooth reintegration after release are higher. Governor Proposes to Shut Down DJJ

January 6, 2012 — Today, Governor Brown proposed to close the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) youth prisons. Brown’s 2012-2013 budget proposes that the DJJ stop taking youth beginning in 2013, eventually eliminating the state’s three remaining youth prisons. [Read More]
